Leidos shines a spotlight on contemporary veterans

This October, Australians will have the opportunity to show their support for military personnel past and present, by taking part in the Bravery Trek, which raises awareness and vital funds to support veterans who face financial hardship.

Leidos Australia has once again signed up as the major sponsor of Bravery Trek, in which participants are challenged to walk, run, swim, cycle, paddle, use a wheelchair or push a pram over a virtual 120km course. In addition, a new ‘Dusk to Dawn 12hr Challenge’ will pit teams of four against each other in a through-the-night endurance event.

This year, the Bravery Trek will focus on the Australian men and women who served in Afghanistan’s Uruzgan Province. Participants will hear stories from veterans who served there, sharing accounts of camaraderie, purpose, and the lasting impact of their deployment.

Bravery Trust CEO Garth Callender said the event provided opportunity for Australians to unite and gain insight into modern deployment and the unique demands placed on contemporary military personnel.

“While most leave their service with strong friendships, new skills and incredible memories, there are some people impacted by their service who struggle to return to civilian life. For some it can be difficult to find a new purpose, create a new identity away from the military and to readjust to the nuances of a civilian lifestyle.

“This event raises funds for Bravery Trust to provide direct financial support to cover essential bills and keep families in their homes; and also financial counselling and proactive education programs to set families up for a prosperous future.”

Leidos Australia Chief Executive Paul Chase said Bravery Trek helped to remove any stigma associated with reaching out for help, by showing unified support for Australian Defence Force veterans.

“Leidos proudly employs a high number of ADF veterans. Alongside the unique skills gained through military service, comes a profound desire to serve their country and to support their mates and colleagues during tough times.

“Bravery Trek is a unique event in the way it brings together military personnel past and present, with community leaders and the broader community. The introduction of a Dusk till Dawn overnight event will bring a new focus on teamwork and camaraderie with a symbolic journey making sure that no one is left behind.”

Bravery Trek will be held during October, aligned to Veterans’ Health Week. The national virtual format allows participants anywhere in Australia to join the mission supporting veterans who face financial hardship.
