From Kokoda to community – Wilson Security doubles down

· SQNLDR Adon Lumley completes the Kokoda Trail this Anzac Day raising funds for Bravery Trust

· Wilson Security matches all donations – and some

· Honouring past heroes while raising funds to support future veterans

Wilson Security has announced it will match all donations made in support of SQNLDR Adon Lumley, who completed the Kokoda Trail to raise funds for veterans facing financial hardship.

Wilson Security has committed additional funding to surpass the $30,000 fundraising target.

For almost a decade Wilson Security has been a Corporate Partner, proactively utilising their networks and resources to support the veteran community. Wilson Security leads the way with its own award-winning veteran employment program, while also recognising some veterans need extra support during the transition phase after leaving the ADF.

“As an ADF veteran myself, I am proud of the values and unique skillset that veterans can bring to civilian employment,” said Wilson Security General Manager Defence, Grant Moffit.

“We understand that military service is more than just a job, it is a lifestyle bringing with it unique friendships, and a strong sense of purpose. It can be difficult to readjust to civilian life when a military career ends. Being able to provide employment on base in a security role, working amongst other veterans, can assist with the transition process providing a new routine and continued belonging.”

Mr Moffit said while many veterans moved into successful civilian career paths, there were some affected by their service who required extra support. “Especially those veterans who are injured or sustain illness during training or deployment, it can be more difficult to readjust to life after the military,” he said.

“Wilson Security is proud to support Bravery Trust to provide specialised financial assistance to those who, at some point, signed a blank cheque over to their country payable for anything up to and including their lives.”

Wilson Security’s additional donation takes the total to $34,000 raised by those who completed the Kokoda Trail, landing at Brigade Hill on Anzac Day 2025.

Bravery Trust Ambassador, SQNLDR Adon Lumley joined a group of 9 supporters completing the arduous 96km trail in 7 days. He said he was overcome with emotion as he stood with the group on Anzac Day.

“It is the first time I have stood where Australians have fought and died. I was humbled, proud, and overcome with emotion as I thought of those ordinary Australians who stood up when it mattered,” he said.

“The trail is hot, humid, and hard. The mud would be horrendous in the wet. When I had thoughts of quitting, I reminded myself how tough those men were. I thought myself well-travelled and capable, yet this has humbled me and reminded me of our forebearers strength and resilience.”

Donations will remain open until the end of this month. Help us in our mission to reach every last veteran who leaves the military due to illness or injury.
