Alex served in the Royal Australian Navy for 25 years. Injuries sustained during service meant earning capacity was limited, and when his wife became ill, there was not enough salary or funds to meet ongoing expenses.
Bravery Trust was able to step in and cover outstanding medical bills, pay his car registration so they could access medical appointments, and provide Coles food vouchers, to get his family through a crucial time.
“I didn’t have anywhere to go. I was stuck. Who do you approach? I tried everything we could ourselves. We used our savings, and I found some work but it just wasn’t enough to get us through that crucial period,” Alex said.
“There was no pressure, it was very easy dealing with Bravery Trust and the team had a great understanding of the DVA system, which made the whole process a lot easier to navigate.
“Once we were back on our feet, I wanted to help someone else in the same way we have received help, so we made the decision to return some of the funding we received as a way to “pay it forward.”
People are at the heart of everything we do. No two veterans are the same.
Help us support our veterans. They sign their lives over to protect us, you can help build a safety net for them.
