Leading national military charity Bravery Trust Bravery Trust welcomes Garth Callender as its new Chief Executive Officer. His appointment signals a strengthened commitment to providing tailored financial and educational support to those who serve.
Mr Callender brings a wealth of experience to the role, including a distinguished 25-year military career and significant public and private sector leadership.
A survivor of a bomb attack in Baghdad, Mr Callender’s journey exemplifies resilience and commitment. His military career saw him serve with distinction in combat, intelligence, training, and strategic roles, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In recent years, Mr. Callender has leveraged his expertise to guide boards and executive teams across Australia through periods of uncertainty, ensuring strategic success.
Mr Callender’s association with Bravery Trust dates back to 2017 when he joined as an ambassador. He later served as a director and assumed the role of Chair of the Board in 2020. Under his leadership, Bravery Trust has transitioned from a welfare-focused organisation to one that empowers veterans through financial education and support.
“It feels like absolutely the right place for me to be, and I am excited to lead Bravery Trust going forward,” Mr Callender said. “I love this organisation, the work we do, and the fantastic people within Bravery Trust who do such important work.”
Bravery Trust Chairman Steve Patrick said Mr Callender’s military service combined with his corporate and government experience made him the ideal choice to lead Bravery Trust through the next phase of evolution.
“Veterans are, by nature, proud people who can find it hard to ask for help when needed. When they do reach out, it is important to provide the right kind of help, tailored to each person’s unique journey,” Mr Patrick said.
“Garth has an in-depth understanding of Defence and veteran support services, as well as a commitment to provide expert, professional support to empower veterans.”
Bravery Trust provides trusted and confidential financial services for veterans. Their team consists of trained professionals with expert knowledge in hardship provision, debt collection laws, and consumer rights.
